Proof of Concept | Surgical augmented reality glasses
The Brief:
In 2015 while working within the orthopaedics sector and speaking with surgeons on barriers to entry with emerging technology, we identified a primary use issue with the emerging AR systems for cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation concerning the ISO standards currently used worldwide.
Project Development:
Working with an off-shelf electronics hardware solution, we focused on developing a housing design and material properties associated with surgical AR glasses.
Using internal prototyping techniques and validated medical device materials, we developed and tested the mechanical housing to demonstrate the viability of creating a medical-grade AR system.
Outputs:
Technical design was created and tested against the generated input requirements.
The project was closed with the completion of a proof of concept technical report with outlined future design recommendations for new product development.
